18 Million Work Days Lost Annually to Mental Health Issues; Blood Testing Could Offer a Proactive Solution

A recent analysis by Claim reveals that mental health conditions, including stress, depression, and anxiety, account for 18 million workdays lost each year in the UK. This figure represents 12% of all working days lost, compared to 33 million days lost to minor illnesses.

The study, based on Office for National Statistics data from 2018-2022, highlights the profound impact of mental health on both employees and employers. Increased absenteeism can lead to heightened stress and decreased job satisfaction for workers, while companies face productivity losses and project delays.

Adding to this concern, CIPD’s findings indicate that 2023 experienced the highest sickness absence rates in over a decade, underscoring the urgent need for organisations to address both health issues and broader workplace concerns.

Recent statistics reflect the growing challenge:

- In 2022, mental health was the fifth most common reason for sickness absence, accounting for 7.9% of cases.

- Around 51% of long-term sick leave is due to stress, depression, or anxiety.

- 60% of employees report feeling anxious, and 56% exhibit symptoms of depression.

- Only 10% of employees seek mental health support.

- Poor mental health costs UK employers £42 billion annually.

- Up to 300,000 people with mental health problems lose their jobs each year.

As a team of experienced counsellors, psychologists, and nutritional experts, we believe that lifestyle choices significantly influence these statistics. Our evidence-based diagnostic tests offer a proactive approach to mental wellbeing by detecting hormonal imbalances and nutrient deficiencies early.

By supporting healthy lifestyle choices, these tests can help employees stay healthy, engaged, and productive, fostering a resilient workforce.

Mental health blood testing identifies biomarkers that can aid in early detection and personalised management of factors affecting mental wellness. This proactive approach has the potential to reduce absenteeism and enhance overall workplace wellbeing.
